Job Description

Apollo’s GraphOS platform helps API platform developers around the world build and operate their data access layers at scale. Trusted by some of the world’s largest and most innovative companies, GraphOS fundamentally democratizes data and accelerates business transformation by enabling teams to manage, govern, and scale their GraphQL ecosystems with confidence.
The Registry team sits at the heart of GraphOS. We own the systems and APIs that power schema publishing, composition, validation, and deployment. Our mission is to build reliable, intuitive, and scalable infrastructure that supports both internal teams and customers in building, launching, and managing their supergraphs.
We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to lead technical strategy and execution across the Registry team. In this high impact role, you'll shape the architecture and long-term direction of critical systems, partner across Apollo to scale our developer platform, and help define what excellence looks like in engineering at Apollo. You’ll help foster and mentor other engineers, setting a consistent example for how we lead projects and maintain our documents, dashboards, and codebases. You’ll work alongside talented folks who value code that delivers 80% of the impact with 20% of the effort, designs that are forward-thinking yet flexible, and leadership grounded in mindfulness, pragmatism, and humility.

What You'll Do

    • Become a key domain owner within the team, taking responsibility for the success of every system and product you own- ensuring the right telemetry is captured and systems are designed with observability, cost, and security in mind.
    • Lead and inspire cross-functional groups of engineers, driving large-scale initiatives as the technical lead—or coaching others into leadership roles.
    • Deliver high-leverage artifacts like technical plans, one-pagers, design reviews, and documentation that align multiple teams toward shared business outcomes.
    • Help grow the team by mentoring engineers, leveling up those around you, and participating in hiring and interviewing efforts.
    • Set the bar for engineering excellence by modeling thoughtful leadership and clean execution—whether maintaining dashboards, evolving codebases, or driving technical decisions.

Who You Are

    • You have deep systems expertise, including experience with stateless and fault-tolerant systems, and are comfortable with eventing patterns and distributed paradigms.
    • You are adept at weighing technical and business trade offs and can “see down the road and around corners.”
    • You enjoy collaborating across teams and orgs, and believe deeply in a “rising tide lifts all boats” approach.
    • You level up those around you, bringing everyone along for the ride.
    • You work effectively across teams and functions and can positively influence decisions beyond your immediate scope.
    • You are data-oriented and have a history of using data and observability to create high-quality, sticky products for users.
    • Bonus points if you know GraphQL!
$193,800 - $262,200 a year
