About the Role 
As a Social Media Design Associate, you will be the bridge between our world-class newsroom and the readers, listeners and viewers who love what The Athletic has to offer. 
A successful Social Media Design Associate will be able to jump seamlessly between conversations with editorial, programming, design, audio and video and connect the dots between each to help us craft a valuable content experience for Athletic subscribers and non-subscribers. 
You will be the eyes and ears of our real-time operation, and the voice of our company’s brand across social platforms. 

Responsibilities

    • Develop visual assets and templates to execute for breaking news, trending storylines, top content and tentpole events by combining photos, text and vector elements.
    • Executes basic functions of social strategy, which include: Curation of social, distribution of articles, podcasts, live blogs, and video to relevant platforms on an ongoing basis. 
    • Assist in driving audience growth. 
    • Develop deep working relationships with departments across the company, including but not limited to editorial, programming, design, audio and video, and position yourself as the go-to source for any cross-functional need — big or small. 
    • Content creation for social platforms: Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, WhatsApp platforms. 
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced news environment, processing relevant information from multiple departments and once synthesizing it to weave together a plan for the immediate, mid-term, and long-term future. 

Requirements

    • 1 to 3 years experience in graphic design. 
    • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects, etc) and Figma.
    • Data visualization, social media and/or video editing expertise is a bonus.
    • Strong time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple work streams effectively. 
    • Design, video editing and Adobe Creative Cloud experience preferred
    • Excellent communication skills 
    • Flexibility in terms of schedule (weekends, evenings, holidays, etc.)
The annual base salary range for this role is $67,000.00 - $70,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
