Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Acting as legal point of contact (POC) for the company’s business in the UK
- Providing day to day support and advice to the Europe and UK management team in relation to engagement with UK regulators, and the company’s preparations for authorisation in the UK
- Leading the company’s response to ongoing investigations and enquiries in the UK
- Leading on the management and handling of material requests from law enforcement agencies in the UK and Europe, as well as working closely with the Global Sanctions Lead Counsel on matters relating to sanctions, ABC and AML/CTF risk in the UK and EU
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of legal strategies to support business objectives
- Cultivate relationships not only with regulators and exchanges but also with legal personnel and other critical stakeholders across the business, adeptly developing networks and promoting Binance's interests
- Advise on an extensive range of regulatory and legal issues that could affect existing and potential services
- Interpret and anticipate regulations and legal requirements that could impact our business, steering management on necessary adjustments
- Help coordinate regulatory audit processes, examinations and litigation procedures
- Ensure Binance is always ready for regulatory assessments and legal confrontations
- Assist with the development and implementation of UK-focused legal and regulatory policy and guidance aligning with Binance's strategic objectives
- Work in tandem with various business teams, supporting the introduction and expansion of new products and services and bridging the regulatory and commercial realms, all while ensuring legal soundness throughout
- Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments affecting the company’s operations
- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations
- Coordinate with external counsel as necessary to protect the company’s interests
- Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business operations and new projects
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to minimize legal exposure
Requirements:
- England & Wales qualified with a current practising certificate
- Minimum 8 years PQE in a legal role focused on financial services regulation and technology, ideally gained from a reputable global law firm
- Strong knowledge of UK financial services rules and guidance, particularly in relation to digital assets, payments, e-money, cyber and operational resilience, and financial crime
- Comprehensive knowledge of retail and wholesale financial products as well as payments systems
- Possess a robust understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape across the UK
- Proven track record of effectively managing legal and regulatory compliance issues, and experience liaising with regulatory bodies in the UK
- Active interest in the cryptocurrency industry and its evolving regulations
- Solid experience with product development from ideation to launch, particularly in a financially regulated environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in legal research and analysis
- Exceptional team spirit and a strong instinct for cross-functional collaboration
- Capacity to navigate complex areas of law and provide practical, actionable advice
- Proactive and willing to get hands-on with challenges, taking a leading role in shaping strategic company decisions
