Job Summary
Welocalize is seeking a Korean Music Localization Specialist to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 3 years of experience in music, media, or translation, localization, and/or content creation. They should be familiar with current music trends, genres (Pop, K-Pop, Hip Hop), and cultural context, as well as possess excellent command of Korean grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules. The specialist will translate and adapt a variety of music-related content into native-level Korean, bringing an authentic tone and voice to the client's Music’s global platform. They will work with tools such as Shakespeare & client tools (training provided) and have daily/weekly availability preferred. Welocalize offers flexible remote work options, $4,000/year travel stipends, and equity in a fast-growing company. The role involves conveying meaning, tone, and emotional impact of lyrics, understanding artist’s background, genre, and cultural context, and adapting lyrics to align with local market norms and guidelines.
Job Description
MAIN DUTIES
- Convey the meaning, tone, and emotional impact of lyrics rather than providing word-for-word translations.
- Understand the artist’s background, genre, and cultural context to ensure authenticity.
- Reflect the original mood of the lyrics using natural phrasing in the target language.
- Adapt lyrics to align with local market norms and guidelines, especially in sensitive regions.
- Use regionally appropriate language without over-localizing or distorting the original meaning.
- Translate idioms and slang in culturally equivalent ways that retain their meaning and vibe.
- Retain unique artist-created words and ensure lyrical rhythm and flow.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 3 years' experience in music, media, or in translation, localization, and/or content creation within fields such as media, entertainment, pop culture, or social media.
- Strong familiarity with current music trends, genres (Pop, K-Pop, Hip Hop), and cultural context.
- Excellent command of Korean grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules.
- Ability to write in a natural, conversational tone.
- Familiarity with common slang, idioms, and expressions in both Korean and English.
- Deep knowledge of current trends, events, and personalities in pop culture.
- Strong focus on social media engagement.
- Skill in tailoring content for different demographics or social groups.
BONUS IF YOU HAVE:
- Published work on platforms like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, or similar.
- Experience in subtitle translation for streaming platforms.
- Experience in video game localization.
- Experience in literary translation.
- Experience in content creation and copywriting for social media platforms.
